The piece is built on musical themes from the rock play “The Lark” («Жаворонок»),
about the life of Joan of Arc. The recitative at the start is my father’s free
translation of a gatha by Thích Nhất Hạnh.

<!-- lang:ru -->

В основу композиции легли музыкальные темы из рок-спектакля «Жаворонок» о жизни
Жанны д’Арк. Речитатив в начале — папин вольный перевод гхаты Тхить Нят Ханя.

<!-- lyrics:ru -->

Открывая окно, наблюдаю я сущность живого.[^source-ru]
Жизнь прекрасна, безмерна, полна, глубока.
И когда удаётся «жить в моменте» момента любого,
Ум мой ясен и чист, как большая река

[^source-ru]: Папин перевод гаты Тхить Нят Ханя «Открывая окно» из сборника [Present Moment Wonderful Moment](https://www.parallax.org/product/present-moment-wonderful-moment/): «Opening the window, I look out onto the Dharmakaya. How wondrous is life! Attentive to each moment, my mind is clear like a calm river.» Ср. [«Река. Часть вторая»](/music/songs/river-part-two/ru).

<!-- lyrics:en -->

Opening the window, I observe the essence of the living.[^source-en]
Life is beautiful, immeasurable, full, deep.
And when I manage to “live in the moment” of any moment,
My mind is clear and pure, like a great river

[^source-en]: My father’s translation of Thích Nhất Hạnh’s gatha “Opening the Window,” from [Present Moment Wonderful Moment](https://www.parallax.org/product/present-moment-wonderful-moment/): “Opening the window, I look out onto the Dharmakaya. How wondrous is life! Attentive to each moment, my mind is clear like a calm river.” Cf. [The River. Part Two](/music/songs/river-part-two).
