Fire, radiation, four horsemen — and in entropy we trust.
And then, the grand finale. Everything explodes: apocalypse, radiation, the four horsemen, all that jazz. The skies melt, the seas burn, and a new radioactive sun rises over what is left. It is all rather Ecclesiastes: in entropy we trust, and to entropy we, quite expectedly, return.
I wrote most of the lyrics of “Grand Finale” 10–15 years ago too. The music was different then, and the lyrics longer, with explanations of what, how and where. Over those 15 years I’ve traveled a path — not as a poet, I won’t call myself that, but as a songwriter — from wanting songs whose words tell the whole story to songs that no longer tell it, where the meaning hides between the lines. This song was one of the moments when I realized it and was glad of my creative growth. The songs of that period I still read with a little cringe, but this one still sounds good to me. It seems I reached my peak then and haven’t grown since. Or maybe I have. We’ll see.
