God’s patience is running out. One day, he thinks, I won’t hold back after all
— one day I’ll smash the whole lot of you to hell. One day his eternal love will
turn to primal hate, and he will come down in flames. For now, though, people
are too funny, so hilariously, lovably dumb, and that alone keeps him up there.
Behind the scenes
The idea for this song came to me long ago, some 10–15 years back, and it had
different music then. I’d have liked to make the song to that music, but Suno
couldn’t yet build a song on music of your own, so I settled for a prompt along
the lines of southern metal. That song is waiting its turn; with this one I’m
quite happy.
Lyrics
One day, I’ll
Both readings at once: the idiom, to fail spectacularly, and the literal one, to come down on them as fire from the sky.
Justifying my name,
So they can see
How mean they were to me.
As the flames fill the skies,
They will look in surprise,
But all they will say:
“Don’t take our petty lives away”
(One day)
I’ll have had enough,
(One day)
My eternal love
(One day)
Turns to primal hate
One day
That’s how I tried to get Suno to change key (spoiler: it didn’t), and it decided to sing it instead. But it felt right there too, so I kept it.
But people so funny
People so fucking hilarious
Keep me from coming
Down to kick the shit…
(One more time!)
So funny
People so lovely hilarious
Keep me from coming
Down to kick the dumb out of them
The opening of Limp Bizkit’s “Break Stuff” (1999), “It’s just one of those days…” — the song the later “break some stuff” nods to as well.
Cause you’re kinda god,
But on the other hand, you’re not,
Cause all these motherfuckers they don’t seem to have a clue
’Bout all this revelation tribulation thing of you,
And you’re like “Go, God, good God, go!
They need a show, Go show a little bit of the celestial C.E.O.
